What do you want to do that you haven’t started doing yet?
We all have ideas, dreams and goals. Things that we think “I should do that” because it seems like something we really want to achieve.
Start a blog. Write a book. Submit a guest post. Create art. Build a mailing list. Sell a product. Sell a hundred of them. Make a video. Email an A-lister. Launch a business. Be successful, whatever success means to us.
Most of the time we don’t do it.
Its too hard. Its embarrassing. It takes a long time. It might fail. It might succeed. People will hate it. People will hate me. I’m too young. I’m too old. I don’t know how. I’ll check my Facebook first. I think I’ll just watch television…
Are you waiting for someone to tell you its okay? Are you waiting for someone to tell you exactly how to do it? Are you looking for guarantees? Are you waiting for your life to just hand you the free time to do it?
Are you waiting for permission to get started?
You have my permission, if thats what you need. Not that you do. And you know it.

Hi Paul,
Great post and very inspirational. I think sometimes that we feel like we are children, just waiting for our parents to give us permission to do something that we always wanted. No matter how old you are or how adult you are, it’s not easy to give ourselves the permission to do what we want in our own lives, particularly if you subscribe to putting others first and taking care of other people. You’ve definitely captured a lot of the fear factor, as well, in doing what we want with our own lives. If we can overcome that, we can really have meaningful lives.
Karen
Thanks for your permission!
Actually that’s a da*m good post. It’s possibly just the kick in the seat of the pants I needed.
Good stuff, Paul. I wrote a similar post on SPI last year and I think it’s exactly what people need to hear sometimes.
I like your post.
I think people sometimes fear success as much as they fear failure.
I also think sometimes people are afraid that failing will make them an outcast. Everyone will know about it and they’ll never be able to succeed at anything else they try.
Which is of course completely untrue. I count way more big failures than big successes in my life.
Thanks Paul, this is very inspirational post…. :)
Yeah, we really need this of posts………..
