Some bloggers get very anxious about upgrading WordPress because of the risk that something will go wrong.
The risk is relatively small, but the impact can be quite large. Nobody enjoys seeing their blog get knocked offline, especially those bloggers who don’t have a lot of technical experience in fixing WordPress problems.
Because every blog is unique it is almost impossible to guarantee a problem-free upgrade of WordPress for everyone.
I’ve written a short guide called Safe WordPress Upgrades to explain how to reduce the risks of WordPress upgrades with some simple steps that I always follow for my blogs.
You can get it now from my resource library. (Existing subscribers got an email about it a few days ago, check your inbox for the link, or just let me know if you can’t find it)
As always if you have any questions or feedback please let me know in the comments below or use the contact form to reach me.

Hi Paul,
Thanks so much for this valuable resource. I haven’t upgraded yet and I’m looking forward to the ‘hand holding’ advice you have in the Guide. It is kind of scary to upgrade to a major release, especially if you have been putting it off for a while.
