Hi there tk,

After 12 months you can keep using the plugin without renewing support. However if you do not renew your support you won't get any further upgrades, or access to the support forum. I've used their support for a couple of minor issues as well as feature requests and found them to be very good.

Backup Buddy has had a few upgrades in the last 12 months including one recent major upgrade. A few of the upgrades have been simple bug fixes but they've also added some great new features and improvements along the way, such as Amazon S3 support, optional/automatic removal of old backups, better scheduling options, better reporting features.... I think they've recently added DropBox support as well.

The plugin has actually improved quite a bit since I first wrote this review, but the most important thing (for me) is that 12 months down the track I'm still super happy with it and will be renewing my support with them (due in about 3 weeks from now for me).

Hope that helps!

I was just upgrading Backup Buddy on one of my sites and learned that the latest version includes a setting to automatically remove older backups from your site. So you can pick how many previous backups you want to keep, say 5 or 10, and it will delete the rest automatically, which should stop your web hosting account from filling up.

Hi Paul, the clue was in your 'it wont start with http://' brilliant! the entries look like this in Wordpress - just splitting out the server and path elements so the software puts them together to make up the whole path, in WordPress like this:

FTP Server: sitename.com (without the http or ww)
User: emailname@sitename.com (as used to access the upload site)
Upload path: /directoryfromroot (with the forward slash)

I have uploaded a 14.6 GIG site-zip this morning, so THANK YOU PAUL! I can breathe again. BTW, using UK2.net which for about $160 US gives my 100Gig of space for a year.

Check with your web host for the details of your FTP server. It will be listed somewhere in your account info or in the hosting control panel they provide to you.

It won't start with http://, I can tell you that much :-)

I have used backupbuddy successfully using S3 for a 3Gig site. However, I now want to backup a 20Gig site to a remote FTP server with UK2.net I have set up the ftp details as required but when using the test feature alongside, the ftp test fails. I think it may be a path formatting feature as the help field only provides one example for an onsite location - but mine is offsite. Trying http://etc www.etc/ and http://www.etc/ all fail. What do I have to do to make this work? TY
