How to Use Word Clouds to Analyze Keywords in Blog Posts

Here is a little trick I first learned from SEO copywriter Glenn Murray of Divine Write.

Wordle is a website that will create a word cloud from any text or a URL that you tell it to analyze.  You can use these word clouds to tell at a glance whether the keywords you are targeting are the dominant words within your text.

Wordle is quick and easy to use, you just need a browser with Java enabled.  Here I am using Wordle to analyze my 7 Ways to Integrate Twitter With Your WordPress Blog post.  I simply paste the blog post URL into Wordle and click on submit.

Wordle creates a word cloud for me and I can see quickly see that “Twitter”, “WordPress”, and “Blog” are dominant keywords.

Test out Wordle on some of your own blog posts to see if you are really hitting the keywords that you should be.

  1. So I guess the word with bigger fonts are better keywords?

  2. The words in the bigger fonts are the words that are most commonly used in the post. It is probably very helpful for making sure you don’t overuse words you don’t mean to.
