How to Shrink Your Butt While Improving Your Blog

Do you suffer from Blogger’s Butt?  This embarrassing condition affects bloggers all around the world and commonly presents itself as a butt that is growing larger at a much faster rate than your blog’s traffic.

Long hours at the keyboard writing blog posts and fueling the body on caffeine, sugar and fatty snack foods are the most common causes of Blogger’s Butt.  Unfortunately for many bloggers their butt is the only thing growing while their blogs remain flat and lifeless.

Luckily there are simple remedies for Blogger’s Butt.  Here are three things you can do to reverse this condition to get your butt shrinking and your blog traffic expanding instead.

Mind Mapping

Grab a water bottle, notepad and pen and walk out your front door.  Walk away from your house for 20 minutes.  Walk as briskly as you can without running.  Or run if you want to.

After 20 minutes stop somewhere like a park or anywhere you can sit down.  Drink some water and get out that notepad and pen.  Start brainstorming ideas for your blog.  Write them down as a mind map.  Blog posts, post series, promotions, monetization, information products, anything and everything that comes to mind.

After 20 minutes get up and walk home again.  Congratulations, you’ve just done 40 minutes of exercise and brainstormed some brilliant ideas for your blog.

Photo Walks

Look at the best blogs in your niche and I bet most of them use photos to liven up their blog posts.  Grab your water bottle and camera and walk out your front door again.

Set a course that will take you about an hour before you arrive back at your home again.  Keep the camera out and take pictures of anything that looks interesting.  Take lots of photos at different angles of even the most innocent looking objects.

After an hour you arrive back home and you’ve got dozens of photos you can use in your blog posts, as well as getting another hour of exercise in.  You can also upload them to Flickr as Creative Commons and other people who use your photos will link back to you.

Eating Smart

The average person’s diet is terrible, and a lot of bloggers would fall on the bad side of that average.  This is particularly a problem for bloggers who also have to keep a day job, and fuel their late night blogging sessions with caffeine, sugar and junk foods.

Your body needs good nutrition to function properly.  Here are some alternatives to consider next time you need blogging fuel.

Coffee/Energy Drinks – instead of another coffee or Red Bull try green tea instead.  It is better for you and won’t give you a nasty spike and crash like too much caffeine and sugar can.  And make sure you keep your water intake up, dehydration can leave you feeling tired and sluggish.

Three Square Meals – instead of chowing down a huge meal that leaves you feeling full and sleepy afterwards, try eating half as much now and having another light meal a few hours later.  Spacing out your food intake into smaller and more frequent meals helps keep your energy up.

Snack/Junk Food – instead of a bag of chips or a chocolate bar thats loaded with fat and carbs and gives you a short hit of energy at best, eat some protein instead.  Protein contains amino acids that help your brain cells talk to each other and the rest of your body.  My favourite snack to keep handy is almonds.  Almonds are high in protein and good fats that your body needs.  Just a small handful of almonds is enough to satisfy snack cravings and lasts a lot longer than any junk food.

Try those three tips and see if your blog (and your butt) improves.

  1. The first paragraph was too hilarious.

    Couldn’t stop laughing.

    Great post, however.

I like the point where you said about thinking and writing about your blog while walking away for home. That way you can do exercise too.
    Great post
    Tweeting this…

  3. Love this. I already do a modified version during my morning dog-walk/twitter check-in, but think I’ll add the other two ideas to my regime as well!

Great suggestions! If the weather is crummy you can always attach ankle weights, lay tummy side on the floor with pen and paper and work those ham strings while you create breathtaking copy–3 pounds weights and do 10 reps each side. This will also firm your…seat.
