How to Blog 3 Times Per Week

In this video I discuss the importance of consistent blogging, and how to use a blogging schedule of 3 times per week to produce consistent content for your blog that maximises your blog traffic.

The example in the video is roughly based on my own blogging schedule.  Do you see any positives or negatives to this kind of blogging strategy?  Do you have your own schedule that you’ve found to be effective for growing your blog?

This video is in response to Darren’s group writing project at Problogger.  You can join in by creating your own blogging tips video to share with the community.

  1. 100% agreed, that 3 posts a week is more or less enough for your blog schedule.

But.. if you do nothing on your free time between writing posts, then it’s more like your disadvantage.

The greatest advice I’ve recently recieved is – Your most recent blog posts should absorb all the possible traffic, otherwise it will be buried in your archives – no one reads archives as attentively as the latest blog posts.

That’s why – this is a great idea to switch from 7-++ posts a week to 2-4 big guality posts. And while you have some free time – spend it on their promotion and link building.

Nice post. Common sense but it helps to document the discipline. I particularly liked the comments you made related to testing and measurement. You should follow-up with something about Google Analytics or other measurement tools as examples. What screen casting software did you use to create the video Paul?

    • Hi Dan, to be honest without my schedule I’d be hopeless. My days are so busy I need that email reminder to get me thinking about my topics to write about, and by the time I sit down at night I’m so tired that without the schedule taped to my screen I’d probably watch Twitter aimlessly for an hour and then go to bed.

The video was made with Camtasia (you can try it free for 30 days, I bought it and also just upgraded to the new verson 7 release). The content itself is a PowerPoint presentation.

That’s interesting. I don’t have a schedule, currently I just write and post whenever I feel I have the time. But, I can see why it’s important to have a schedule and stick to it.

I especially enjoy that you’ve added the type of posts you write. I’m going to try your schedule and your type of posts.

    Thanks.

  4. I don’t have a set schedule but I like to post at least 5 times a week, so I try for everyday and then when I have a day or two that I just don’t have time or am not up for writing, I am still fine. The only regularly scheduled post I have is that I write about the TV show Lost after every episode, so that is always done on Wednesday mornings. Other than that I try to spread out my topics.

  6. Hi Paul –

Thanks for this post! I’ve only been posting one day a week. But I’ve been consistent. The posts are primarily practical how-to entries that I publish on Wednesdays.

However, I’ve been thinking about increasing my frequency. My concern has been whether I’d be able to keep up with it. But after this post, I’ve decided to move forward with a Friday link round-up. And if that goes well, I’ll add a third post in a month or two.

Thanks again for giving me the nudge — and the ideas — I needed.
