RSS seems to be becoming less and less important as this year has gone by. I wonder if in a few years all we’ll be talking about is our email lists and Facebook fans.

Actually, I completely agree because, like you said, many people either don’t care about RSS or don’t really know what it is and how to effectively use it.

RSS is a much more techie type of crowd – depending on your blog niche, you probably don’t need it.

Still need to work on my email side of things but yeah, you can get that extra personal note in there that goes well beyond just the normal “welp, here’s the latest post, kthanks”

RSS is a pain in the RSS. :)

I use Feedblitz to manage my RSS + email marketing. Its the best of both worlds really, and a great alternative to feedburner:

Ultimately, I think you’re spot on! I recently switched from pushing RSS to pushing my email updates and it’s brought about a more faithful readership and better interactions. I think RSS is just too anonymous.
