In this interview Melvin Dichoso talks about blogging lessons learned the hard way.
Tell us a little about your blog.
My blog is located at Melvinblog.com. Obviously its a personal blog and really intended it to be a personal one but somehow it was dragged to the internet marketing/’make money online’ type given the fact that I do hand out personal tips and share some experience in internet marketing.
How long have you been blogging for? What made you want to start blogging?
I’ve been blogging for 3+ years. I started a hobby blog about basketball 3 years ago in w/c I both have the intentions of making money from it and writing for it as a passion. I got started because I saw it in TV that you can make money by blogging and since I’m blogging way since blogging was even a word (using social networks platform), I gave it a try.
What were some of your biggest challenges when you first started blogging?
I easily got into the money thing which really outed my passion at first. The challenge is instead of following my passion by writing good content, I started focusing instead of making money immediately and too much. Obviously I failed.
How did you overcome these challenges?
I think getting banned from Google Adsense was the biggest turning point. Because of it I learned to run blogs the proper way. I learned that the only way to make money is to be genuine and to run a real business. Eventually it didn’t take long after being banned that I started making a good profit with affiliate marketing. I started blogging again and this time I was doing ir properly.
What is a recent milestone that you have accomplished with your blog? How were you able to achieve this milestone?
I’m not sure if I have reached any milestone yet but for me just being read by a thousand people is enough to keep me blogging. I think being under the Alexa 100,000 is another one and just all the benefits I get from blogging is a lot.
What is your next goal that you want to achieve with your blog?
Be able to establish myself as an authority. This year I am really working hard to get my blog just about everywhere. Hopefully at the end of the year I would be one of them (niche experts).
What is your best tip for other people out there who might be new or struggling with their blogging?
Be patient. Success doesn’t happen overnight, in a week or even after a year. If you’re looking to get rich quickly then quit blogging. After all your patience would challenge you and will make you think if you’re really passionate about what you’re doing.

It’s really hard to get over. Getting banned from Google is a big disappointment.
