Blogger Interview: Cori Padgett of Big Girl Branding

Tell us a little bit about your blog.

Big Girl Branding is sort of my ‘creative’ outlet that I can use to write what I want and make people listen to me. :)

No, really BGB is supposed to be a sort of marketing and branding resource that readers can visit often and always find relevant and useful information regarding small business start-ups, marketing, branding, and all that other fun stuff that relates.

The title and tag line ‘may’ lead you to believe this blog is only for women, but really it’s not. I slanted it that way for branding purposes and because… well I’m a girl. But the information applies to all businesses, whether woman or man owned. ;)

How long have you been blogging for? What made you want to start blogging?

Initially I developed Big Girl Branding as a way to showcase the quality and style of my writing to potential clients. My lazy way of providing ‘samples’. Then I got ambitious and decided I really liked blogging… now I want it to be the best blog on the planet. No, really I do!

The goal is for it to eventually become a bit of an ‘authority’ blog over time, where my readers will be able to constantly refer back often for relevant and effective marketing, branding, and copywriting advice that can use to increase their own profits. And maybe enjoy a chuckle or two. Yep, that’s my goal.

What were some of your biggest challenges when you first started blogging?

Hmnn… You mean what are they now? LOL I actually just started really blogging not too long ago. But I would say some of the biggest challenges are planning and keeping up with regular content, and designing the content so that it is all interlinked and draws my readers deeeeeeeeeppp into my lair.

How did you overcome these challenges?

Ummm… still working on that! :) Basically I am making it a goal to sit down and do ‘something’ for my blog at least 3 times a week…whether that means writing a new blog post, or interlinking some of my posts within other posts, or working on marketing and traffic generation.

What is a recent milestone that you have accomplished with your blog? How were you able to achieve this milestone?

I built it! No, I would say a good milestone was whenI hit 20+ posts on my blog. That’s a pretty good feeling, seeing all this content I created, that people are actually enjoying reading.

What is your next goal that you want to achieve with your blog?

Increasing my subscribers is my biggie right now. That and creating a steady stream of content. I also plan on featuring quite a few more guest bloggers that can provide a valuable contribution to what BGB is all about. My most secret of goals? To reach 200,000 subscribers by the end of the year. ;)

What is your best tip for other people out there who might be new or struggling with their blogging?

Just keep at it. Don’t give up. It takes work, but it can definitely pay off and give you a real sense of accomplishment. Especially when you are blogging about a topic you are passionate about. Don’t waste your time trying to chase the cash… blog about your passion, what you love and the cash will follow in ways you least expect it.
